It would be a massive upgrade if we could use custom metrics for habits (just like we can with goals), specifically with a "Minimum Target + Overflow" logic. Right now, habits are mostly based on simple binary completion or rigid counts, which misses a huge opportunity for psychological habit building.
The Concept:
In habit building, keeping the barrier to entry low is crucial to maintaining a streak. If a daily target is too large, you get discouraged and skip it. However, on high-energy days, you often want to do more—and the app should be able to capture and visualize that extra effort.
How it should work (Example):
The Setup: I set a daily habit with a custom metric and define a daily minimum of 10 pages (or a minimum of saving 5 €). Meeting this minimum keeps the streak alive.
The Input: If I end up reading 25 pages (or saving 20 €) that day, I can input the exact number instead of just checking a box.
The Visualization: The chart/insights dashboard should display the actual progress (25 pages / 20 €). This creates a beautiful visual motivation showing the days where I went above and beyond, without raising the baseline difficulty for harder days.
Supported Metrics Needed:
To make this truly useful, the habits section should support the same flexible metrics as goals:
Currencies (e.g., tracking exact Euros/Dollars saved per day)
Distances & Formats (e.g., Kilometers run, minutes meditated)
Custom Metrics (e.g., Pages read, glass of water, words written)
